Matches

Matches are usually on Saturday afternoons in the winter.

Plymouth Dolphins play tournaments as well as friendly matches. Home games will be played in Plymouth, and Away fixtures at the relevant club ground. Tournaments and Away Days are features of the season and we often stay over to enjoy the nightlife and hospitality of our host clubs, or show our guests a great time when they visit.

Home Match Fees are set at £5.00 per player. These fees go towards paying for referees and post-match food etc. All players receive food post-match at both home and away games.

Get Social!

We arrange social events throughout the year including Christmas, Treasure Hunts, World Cup Nights, Eurovision Watch Parties, Annual Presentation Evening and Club Birthday nights out. Even if you don’t feel ready to play competitively yet, you are more than welcome to enjoy the social side.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No, not at all! Plymouth Dolphins is inclusive; we are proudly open to anyone and everyone who wants to enjoy rugby. Our team allows people of many different backgrounds to play together. The team is a space that aspires to be warm, safe and exciting for everyone.

  • Training and playing are voluntary: it is entirely up to you how much time you want to commit to the team. That said, the more you train, the faster you will learn, the better you will play and the more you will get out of being in the experience!

  • Experience is not a requirement to start your rugby journey. Almost everyone is a beginner at the start, and experienced players support those who are learning. We will train you to know everything you could possibly need to know.

  • To start with you will need suitable boots for training and clothes to run around in that you won’t mind getting dirty (especially in the wet winter months).

Club-branded merchandise is also available to buy whenever you want some.

  • We collect availability for games about 3 weeks in advance. We arrive at the ground approx. 1.5 hours before kick off, allowing time to change, warm up and run through set-pieces before kick-off. Post Match dress code is a white shirt and Club tie unless otherwise stated (sometimes we revert to social polos).

  • Finances shouldn’t be a barrier to anyone Dolphin enjoying the game. Please speak to either the Chairperson or Membership and Recruitment Officer to discuss your situation confidentially. We will always try to make things work!
